Who I am

YPSILANTI, Mich.- Colorful is an adjective that can be used to describe myself entirely. Unfortunately, black has been ascribed to me.

We live in a world that is dawdling to change and masked with ignorance. In no way am I stating that I am innocent to this common trend. However, I am willing to identify the problem and find a solution because you can not solve anyone else’s problem until you fix your own.

While growing up, I was the teacher’s worst nightmare. I was the student writing on the walls with markers, or talking during the teacher’s instruction and many other mischievous things. When I decided to run for class president my sixth year of grade school, I realized that I could not provide an adequate example if I was breaking all the rules. Needless to say I was not chosen but that was a real wake up call.

I am active on the campus of Eastern Michigan University. I am a part of numerous organizations and clubs which are geared toward leadership and uplifting minority population on campus. I am journalism major in my third year. I hope to complete my program in the next two years. I have been active in every community I enter. I believe if you have an issue and never address it, you are contributing to that issue.

This class on feature writing is something; I am interested in, because I do not understand the structure of how to write a feature. I would like to gain more knowledge and skill from this class, and I am willing to accept and learn from any constructive criticism my peers and professor may have. I know that I am rough around the edges, but I truly have a passion for writing. My goal when writing is to refresh people's adolescent imagination, which may have been lost or darkened through the years. I want to be able to awaken the child inside of all.
